Goodwill Amity’s 17th Annual Power of Work Awards Lunch

Thank you to everyone for joining us at our 17th annual Power of Work Awards Lunch on November 3! Over 160 guests joined us in celebrating the power of work, and the importance of giving a “hand up,” as our founder said, to those in need of opportunities in our community.

Together we celebrated our Achiever of the Year Award winners, Lindsay Johnson and Hatim Nairoukh, who overcame adversity and personal barriers to successfully reach their employment goals. Denninger’s Foods of the World was presented the Business Partner of the Year Award, recognizing the outstanding support and opportunities they have brought to job seekers in our region.

Watch Their Stories!

Emcee Lohifa Pogoson Acker powered up the crowd, and guest speaker Kendal Netmaker provided a thought-provoking and inspiring learning experience about the power of work, helping hands, and the importance of a focused mindset.

Together, we raised $31,000 to support job seekers in our community! These funds will support the delivery of Goodwill Amity employment programs and services in Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event. We look forward to celebrating with you next year!

Support Job Seekers This Giving Tuesday

The holiday season always brings added pressure for job seekers. This year is especially difficult for those struggling under the high cost of food, housing shortages and low paying jobs.

A job seeker might find employment but cannot afford…

  • Transportation to get to work,
  • A winter coat, work boots and vest to be on the jobsite
  • Groceries and personal care items waiting for their first pay cheque or
  • Childcare so they can work extra hours

When you are barely meeting your basic needs there is no room for gift giving, hosting celebrations or travelling to loved ones over the holidays.

You can help relieve some of these pressures with a gift to Goodwill Amity’s Job Seeker Support Fund. You will give job seekers in need emergency funds for things like groceries, transit passes, steel-toe boots, a haircut or a babysitter so they can attend employment training.

The power of work can be life-changing but sometimes we need a little hand to get us there. You can lend a hand with a donation to our Job Seeker Support Fund. Please click here to donate now.
