Required Qualifications:

• Post-secondary degree in either Theatre or Education
• Minimum 2 years’ direct experience with education and community engagement, preferably within the arts industry
• Knowledge of theatre operations, including box office, programming and marketing
• Experience with and a passion for the performing arts
• Solid understanding of Ontario’s education curriculum
• Highly motivated to seek out community development opportunities that will contribute to the success of meeting strategic and revenue targets
• Computer literacy, with proficiency in Excel and experience with database management
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a high level of professionalism and personal integrity
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and KPI’s
• Self-motivated with ability to take initiative and problem-solve independently
• Team player who shares ideas, takes direction and feedback well, and is driven to see the team and organization succeed above the need for individual limelight
• Ability to manage a rapidly changing environment and varied workload
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Key Responsibilities:

Education & Outreach:
• Responsible for the coordination, implementation and evaluation of the following key components to the education outreach program:
o Individual school performances (elementary and secondary)
o Workshops and education outreach initiatives
o Professional development sessions and activities for educators
o Theatre Industry Mentorship Program (co-op placements, internships)
o Golden Ticket Program
• Support BPAC’s youth programming by developing Study Guides that are complimentary to the performance and relevant to the Ontario Arts Curriculum, meeting the diverse needs of educators at both the elementary and secondary level
• Develop, nurture and extend relationships and partnerships with school board staff, consultants and community artists and arts organizations
• Work with school boards and social service organizations to identify targeted schools in under-serviced regions to deliver the Golden Ticket Program
• Work in tandem with the Box Office to manage all education program ticketing/seating requests and the related bookings and invoicing processes
• Act as primary point of contact for school performances, from promotion to sales to day-of representation and follow-up
• Coordinate with other departments in BPAC to ensure effective implementation of the education program (i.e.: Front of House, Box Office, Technical Services and Marketing)
• Work within budgets for all arts education and community outreach programs and workshops
• Obtain and monitor and report on statistical information, ticket sales, attendance data and historical quantitative data on projects

Community Engagement & Artist Development Initiative:
• Coordinate and deliver a series of community workshops and information sessions
• Develop and enhance artist outreach opportunities and community engagement initiatives to help build audiences for BPAC’s programming
• Develop and maintain comprehensive database of local artists and arts organizations, and foster relationships with these community partners
• Develop and deliver Culture Days activities and programming
• Work with the Marketing team to develop effective marketing materials and promotional strategies for all community engagement, outreach and education activities and program

Other Duties as Required
• Including providing administrative assistance to the Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY
On behalf of The Burlington Performing Arts Centre (BPAC) and with the leadership and guidance of the Executive Director, the Education & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of BPAC’s arts education and community outreach programs, and for nurturing relationships and building partnerships that will enhance BPAC’s programming and lead to development and learning opportunities for emerging artists, students and educators in a world-class theatre setting.

OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
• The development and delivery of a comprehensive arts education program for Halton area students
• Coordination and delivery of master classes and workshops for the community
• Develop and enhance key relationships with educators and within the local cultural community to build partnerships and to enhance BPAC’s programming and outreach activities
• Coordination of Student Placements and Co-Ops
• Develop and build audiences for various performing arts genres
