Required Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two to Three (2-3) years relevant experience as a maintenance or janitorial worker
• Two to three (2-3) years experience with power tools and equipment handling
• Excellent time management
• Strong communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Work effectively to solve problems, both independently and as a team member
• Show respect for the population served by Mission Services, and demonstrate an understanding of their needs
• Committed to upholding the organization’s mission, values and standards
• Must be flexible and able to manage change of plans on a regular basis
• Able to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) as required
• Forklift training is an asset
• First Aid Training is an asset

Key Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Work with the Facility Services Department leadership to ensure facilities are properly maintained and concerns repaired so as to protect Mission Services assets and ensure a safe, healthy environment for staff, service users, and volunteers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Complete assigned tasks in a timely, effective and cost-efficient manner, following the direction of the Facility Services Department leadership
• Be on-call (frequency determined by number of staff in on-call rotation) to respond to maintenance concerns raised after normal weekday work hours. Address these after-hours calls based on direction provided by Facility Services Department leadership
• Purchase supplies needed to complete assigned repairs and projects, following Facility Services Department leadership guidance
• Provide Facility Services Department leadership constructive input on repair needs, including: capital repairs needed, renovation projects, and input on prioritizing and scheduling of jobs
• Work within the Facility Services team environment to foster a positive and supportive work environment, and provide the best service to MSH staff, service users and guests
• Assist the Mission Services Facility Services Department on assigned non-maintenance duties, including but not limited to: moving furniture, grounds keeping, garbage disposal and donation pick-up
• Appropriately handle and store chemical products in accordance with WHMIS and Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act; required to use personal protective equipment as identified
• Assist with custodial cleaning as required
• Work safely, identify any health and safety concerns and report to management
• Follow Mission Services workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times
• Committed to uphold the organization’s mission, values and standards
• Additional projects and duties as assigned to ensure the safe operation of the facilities

Additional Details:

HOURS OF WORK:
• 37.5 Hours per week with the flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends.
• The Maintenance worker will also be required to take part in an after-hours on call rotation.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Police Vulnerable Sector Check
• Two-Step Tuberculosis Skin Test
• Proof of two COVID-19 vaccines or willingness to receive these vaccinations as soon as possible
• Steel-toed boots required
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record and access to own vehicle
COMPENSATION:
• *Wage: Up to $24.86 Per Hour (start rate dependent on level of experience)
• *Benefits after 3-months of continuous, active employment
• *Group RRSP employer matching up to 3% after one (1) year of continuous employment
