Required Qualifications:
Must have a post secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university
Previous experience working in LTC within the Activity Department,
Must be proficient in Point Click Care / Activity Pro an asset
Excellent working knowledge of RAI-MDS assessments and resident Care Planning
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Effectively utilizes recognized strategies in communication for working with people with dementia;
An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
Documentation and resident recreation assessments within the geriatric population and healthcare setting an asset;
Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager;
Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, visitors, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly and best practice;
Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents’ interest in mind;.
Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
Assisting with meal services as required;
Other duties as assigned.
