Celebrating 90 Years of Changing Lives
Through the Power of Work!
|
What started in 1935 as a small initiative to support people out of work has grown into a place where job seekers find opportunity, businesses find support, and secondhand goods find new life.
As we celebrate our 90 year anniversary, we recognize that none of it would be possible without our community. Every job seeker who walked through our doors, every employer who opened a door, and every donor and shopper who contributed have helped shape Goodwill Amity into what it is today. Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to 90 years — and to the future ahead!

Career Centre Expansion Nears Completion
|
Exciting news — our Career Centre expansion is nearly finished! Soon, job seekers will have access to more private interview rooms and enhanced support spaces, ensuring they can meet with career coaches in a comfortable, judgment-free setting.
This expansion means more opportunities, more resources, and a better experience for those looking to take the next step in their job search. The updated space is already receiving great feedback from both staff and job seekers. The improved layout and the addition of private interview rooms has made a noticeable difference in creating a more comfortable, focused environment.
We can’t wait to welcome the community into the new space! Stay tuned for the official opening details!

Meet Our Outreach Coordinator: Max
|
Our Outreach Coordinator, Max, is connecting job seekers with the resources and support they need — whether at job fairs, local events, or just in the community! His work helps more people access the tools to find meaningful employment.
This role is made possible thanks to funding from Alinea, whose support allows us to reach more job seekers, meeting them where they are in the community. We are so grateful for their partnership in making this work possible!
If you see Max out and about, be sure to say hello — he’s always happy to chat about how Goodwill Amity can help in your job search!

A Fresh Start Shouldn’t Feel Out of Reach
|
Starting a new job is exciting, but for many, it comes with unexpected hurdles. Imagine landing a great opportunity — only to realize you can’t afford the steel-toe boots required for your first shift, the bus fare to get there, or even groceries to get through until payday.
That’s where Goodwill Amity’s Emergency Support Fund comes in. This fund provides immediate one-time support, covering the small but critical expenses that can stand between a job seeker and their fresh start. In particular, it helps job seekers who fall through funding gaps and cannot access support elsewhere.
In the last month alone, we have seen a 30% increase in emergency support requests from job seekers. This includes helping to purchase food, diapers, bus tokens, construction clothing, and fees for first-aid training. We need your help to keep this emergency funding available. Please consider donating a gift of $25, $50 or more to the Emergency Support Fund today.
Your donation can be the difference between someone turning down a job — or stepping into a brighter future.

Mohamed’s Triumph: Overcoming Challenges and Embracing a New Future
|
Mohamed’s story is one of steady progress and determination. Like many newcomers to Canada, he arrived to the country full of hope, but he faced some big challenges — learning English, adjusting to a new culture, and trying to find work in a competitive job market.
He came to Goodwill ready to work and eager to find his place. Even with experience as a forklift operator, he struggled to secure a job due to his limited English skills. But Mohamed stayed focused. He signed up for ESL classes and teamed up with his Career Development Specialist and a Placement Student at Goodwill. Together, they helped him fine-tune his resume, practice interview skills, and connect with employers who could see his potential.
Along the way, Mohamed received essential like clothing and shoes from Goodwill — little things that make a big difference as he worked toward re-entering the workforce.
Mohamed’s determination paid off, helping him secure work as a landscaper. It’s a job that gives him stability and a sense of purpose as he builds his new life in Canada. He is proud to be working again and excited about what this new chapter means for his future.
