New Year, New Homes for Donated Goods

Do you need to make room for holiday gifts in your closets? Did you get a thing or two that someone else might appreciate more? Goodwill will gratefully receive whatever you donate to find a new home and new life in our thrift stores. Those stores not only support community reuse and repurposing, but also generate proceeds so we can continue to help job seekers enter or reenter the workforce!

New Year Resolution: Buy Fewer New Things

Every second-hand purchase reduces your environmental impact by eliminating the manufacturing of something new, eliminating shipping, and vastly reducing packaging! Goodwill thrift stores have everything a household needs including clothing, décor, electrical, and housewares. Why not resolve to make us your first shopping destination this year? Find some unique treasures in the process!

Looking to Find a Job as 2023 Begins?

It can be hard, especially if someone’s been out of the workforce for a while, is a newcomer, someone with a disability, or is just finding it a struggle to build up the confidence to apply. With free services including resume preparation, guidance on building a network, and interview practice, we can support you on the journey to landing that job!

The Power Lunch & 16th Annual Power of Work Awards

On November 9th we gathered at the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens to honour two individual job seekers – Lisa Priest-Brown and Stewart Smith-Fairbarn – who overcame significant barriers to achieve their employment objectives, and one outstanding employer – T4 Tax – whose owner started his long-time relationship with Goodwill as a job seeker himself and has since hired many Goodwill participants at his company.

Watch Their Stories

The event also featured an inspiring talk by Juno-nominated artist and TedTalk fellow Peter Katz, all moderated by the one and only Lohifa Pogoson Acker. We thank our sponsors, including presenting sponsor RBC, our community leaders in attendance and everyone who joined us. Funds raised will help give even more job seekers a hand up as they strive to land on their feet and build a future for themselves and their families in our great community.

Work Can Break the Generational Cycles of Poverty

In our work delivering Employment Services we depend on community support to fill the gaps and serve those who would otherwise fall through the cracks. We know that every day a parent doesn’t work is another day the family might go without because work can provide housing, put food on the table, and even pay for soccer or swimming lessons for the kids. To help change someone’s life through the power of work please donate.
